A sustainable input for the challenges of modern agriculture

Biostimulants are a revolutionary category of products designed to efficiently meet the growing demands of professional agriculture. Used alongside fertilisers and agrochemicals, they are substances that promote plant vitality and productivity. The main functions of biostimulants are:

  • Improvement of nutrient efficiency:
Biostimulants facilitate the uptake of essential nutrients by plants, thereby optimising their nutrition.

  • Enhancement of product quality and yield:
with a direct impact on agricultural production, biostimulants increase its nutritional and commercial value.

  • Protection against environmental stress:
biostimulants help plants overcome environmental challenges accentuated by climate change.

As these products are of natural origin and completely biodegradable, they leave no residues on crops, ensuring zero environmental impact.

Benefits of biostimulants

The use of biostimulants is rapidly becoming established in the agricultural sector due to the numerous benefits they offer. Among the main benefits of using these products are:

  • Optimisation of the plant's metabolic processes

  • Optimal nutrient assimilation

  • Efficient use of water

  • Stimulation of natural defences

  • Reduced use of fertilisers and agrochemicals

  • Improved germination and root growth

  • Increased crop yield and quality

  • Increased resistance to abiotic stress

SICIT is the world leader in the production of biostimulants of both animal and plant origin. The excellence and quality of SICIT's biostimulants are guaranteed by extensive know-how, a state-of-the-art production process and highly sophisticated technologies.

Operating in more than 70 countries, SICIT is not only the world's leading producer of biostimulants, but also a trusted brand for global farmers and producers.

European Regulations

The importance of biostimulants in the European agricultural market has been recognised and set out in Regulation (EU) 2019/1009.

This regulation introduces specific "rules concerning the placing of EU fertiliser products on the market" and, in its context, a particular "product function category" (PFC) has been defined as "biostimulants". They are described as products that "stimulate plant nutrition processes independently of the nutrient content, with the sole purpose of improving nutrient use efficiency, abiotic stress tolerance, quality traits and availability of nutrients confined in the soil or rhizosphere". This new regulation has the merit of unifying regulations across EU member states, thus facilitating the marketing of biostimulants while ensuring quality and safety for farmers and consumers.

ANIMAL ORIGIN COMPOSITION

Biostimulants based on protein hydrolysates

SICIT biostimulants exemplify excellence in the sphere of sustainable agriculture due to their special production process. They are derived from by-products of the tanning industry, such as fleshing waste, hair, scraps, trimmings and shavings.

These by-products are particularly rich in collagen, a high-quality protein valued in numerous sectors such as cosmetics and animal feed. The uniqueness of SICIT's biostimulants lies in the transformation of this protein: through specific processes, collagen is transformed into protein hydrolysate, which serves as the basis for producing highly effective biostimulants. Protein hydrolysate, in fact, is rich in amino acids, such as glycine and proline, which are essential for stimulating plant growth and health. With this methodology, Sicit has been able to valorise tanning by-products, transforming them into valuable products for modern agriculture.

PLANT ORIGIN COMPOSITION

Biostimulants based on seaweed and moringa extracts

Plant-derived biostimulants are another step forward to expand the range of products offered by SICIT. Created to complement biostimulants of animal origin, these products are based on extracts obtained from both aquatic and terrestrial plants. Specifically, for biostimulants derived from algae extracts, the species Macrocystis pyrifera, Ulva lactuca, Durvillaea antarctica and Porphyra columbina are used.

Recently, research projects have been initiated to develop the production of plant-derived biostimulants based on extracts of Moringa oleifera Lam., a plant with multiple beneficial properties.

Customised formulations for every need

SICIT works closely with leading agrochemical companies both nationally and internationally to distribute biostimulants in formulations tailored to meet the specific needs of target markets.

The approach used is ‘one product for one company’, enabling customised solutions to be created by adjusting the content of free and total amino acids, low molecular weight peptides, organic nitrogen and the addition of micronutrients.

Available formulations

These formulations are notable for their high stability and concentration, as well as their complete water solubility.

Designed for foliar application or use in fertigation, they provide a powerful biostimulant effect in all crops. They are also perfectly compatible with all fertilisers and most phytosanitary products in use.

These innovative formulations are the result of the R&D team's research and work with university research centres.

The tablets, which range in size from 3 to 20 mm and are available in different shapes, are produced through pharmaceutical mixing and compression technologies. Their composition can be enriched with trace elements, beneficial substances such as silicon or other biostimulants such as algae extracts, humic and fulvic acids.

By exploiting our advanced coating technology and using fully biodegradable materials of natural origin

we can control how the biostimulant is released into the soil. This enables us to synchronise maximum product availability with the plant's peak demand phases, ensuring a targeted release for both formulations.
