SICIT was awarded in the “Technology and Innovation” category for its efforts to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact at its two production plants in Arzignano and Chiampo (VI), as well as for a process innovation that enabled the recyclability of animal hair—a byproduct of the tanning industry that previously required disposal mostly through the local district’s water treatment system. This internationally renowned event celebrates global achievements in sustainability within the fashion and luxury sectors. The award certifies the recognized company’s commitment to sustainable development models. The GCFA awards are organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, in collaboration with Eco-Age, supported by the Ministry of Economic Development, ICE Agency, and the City of Milan. The awards reflect fashion houses’ dedication to sustainability and their ongoing commitment to balance the need for swift environmental change with the preservation of tradition and authenticity among small-scale producers. The tanning industry ranks among the most virtuous sectors, with 99.5% of raw materials sourced from food industry byproducts, and with waste sorting rates exceeding 91% since 2002, even reaching 98% by 2010.
